_There's never a lack of fun things to do during your vacation in Franklin, North Carolina. You can go gem mining at any of several active gem mines, see breathtaking waterfalls, take a hike, enjoy a concert, go rafting, visit one of our four museums, take in Pickin on the Square (May-October each Saturday Night - FREE), ride the Great Smoky Mountain Railway or visit America's largest home, Biltmore. All of this and more is within one hour or less of Franklin, NC. or visit the Great Cherokee Nation reservation.

The Factory: Great Food, Great Fun • This place has games, indoor miniature golf, a bowling alley, go carts, and several restaurants.

Ruby City Gems and Museum • If you are a rock hound, this should be your first stop. Not only do they have the gems, they sell the machines and tools you need to turn ugly duckling rocks into swan rocks. And!!! their museum is unique--they have everything from giant Brazilian amythest geodes to fossilized dinosaur scat to an authentic shrunken head from a Pacific Island.

Mason Mountain Mine • Go Mining for Gems! This site is not seeded. It is a lot of fun, for you never know what you will find. Plus, guests at Rivendell Cabins receive a special discount.

Shadowland Seed is a premier honey and beeswax product grower and manufacturer of hand crafted and bottled natural beeswax and honey products gifted to us by nature.  Steve has hives on and around the properties, in isolated areas, to gather the precious and coveted sourwood honey to sell.  Often we have small sample bottles of this honey for our guests and we take orders for larger quantities.  He has lotions, candles and other items for sale on his web page, and the products are reasonably priced and wonderful quality.
